Even if the Ziz gorge is defined by artificial gates at both the nothern and southern end, it remains a very fascinating and attractive site for visitors.
At the southern end you will first have to pass the dam of Hassan Addakhil — and this represent a rare chance to see one of Morocco\'s several artificial lakes from a short distance.
At the northern end there will be the Tunnel de Légionnaire, which was built by French colonial troops in the 1930s, in order to create a passageway from the mountains to the Ziz valley.
The gorge itself is the dramatic result of the power of the Ziz river. The cut through the pink Atlas mountains is lined by a thin palm garden and with the kasbah of Ifri as the highlight.
